A truly successful project isn’t just measured by the beautiful finishes left behind, but also by how a home is treated during the process.

At Craftsman Renovations, protecting your home is a core pillar of our company, which is why we follow a strict, comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for site protection on every single job.
Here is a behind-the-scenes look at the extreme measures we take to ensure your home, your property, and your peace of mind are protected from day one to the final reveal.
Construction dust is relentless, but our containment strategy is stronger. Before a single hammer swings, we isolate the work zone.
Sealed Construction Zone: We build temporary walls using heavy-duty 6-mil polyethylene sheeting and tension poles, complete with adhesive zipper doors to seal off the construction area from your living space.
Negative Air Pressure: We deploy commercial HEPA air scrubbers inside the work zone, venting the exhaust outside the house. This creates "negative air pressure," meaning air is constantly pulled into the work zone rather than dust floating out into your clean house.
Weekly Filter Replacement: Your home's "lungs" need protection. We custom-cut filter media to cover your cold air returns and seal supply registers as needed. To ensure your HVAC system runs efficiently and cleanly, we replace your primary furnace filter every week during the dusty construction phases of the project.
Guarding Your Floors and Stairs
One dropped tool or a bit of gravel stuck in a work boot can ruin a beautiful floor. We don't take chances.
Layered Floor Protection: After a thorough vacuuming, we lay down Ram Board over primary traffic areas, securing it only with delicate-surface tape to protect your existing finish.
Heavy Staging: In areas where we are moving heavy appliances or staging demolition debris, we add an extra layer of Masonite (hardboard) to prevent impact damage.
Delicate Paths & Stairs: For delicate finished pathways, we use grip-friendly neoprene runners. Your stairs get the VIP treatment with heavy-duty felted rolls custom-molded to the treads and risers.
Environmental Stewardship
Our care doesn't stop at your front door. The exterior of your home and your landscaping require just as much respect. Curb appeal is just as important to us as it is to you.
Surface Protection: We never drop a heavy disposal bin directly onto your driveway. We always lay down 1/2" or 5/8" plywood under all dumpster wheels and contact points to prevent scratching, cracking, or sinking. We treat decks, porches, and walkways in the same manner.
City of Toronto Tree Protection: We strictly adhere to municipal guidelines to protect your mature trees. We consult Arborist Reports and erect sturdy 4-foot framed fencing around the Tree Protection Zones (TPZ) to ensure root systems are completely undisturbed by foot traffic or materials.
Site Facilities: If a porta-potty is required, it is placed discreetly (on plywood if on grass) without blocking your garage access. We enforce a strict "#1 & #2 ONLY" rule—absolutely no construction materials, paint, or solvents are ever dumped inside, keeping the unit sanitary and odor-controlled. Site facilities are serviced once a week by our providers.
Daily Maintenance is Mandatory
Site protection isn't just something we set up and forget. It requires active management. Our Site Supervisors inspect all poly walls, zipper doors, and floor protections daily. At the end of every shift, all debris is bagged or placed in the dumpster. A clean site is a safe site, and we refuse to leave your home looking like a disaster zone overnight.
Prioritizing Safety, Compliance, and Communication
A well-protected home is also a safe and transparently managed home. We believe that open communication and strict safety protocols are the best ways to eliminate renovation anxiety.
Safety First: We adhere to the highest occupational health and safety standards. Every site is equipped with a designated first-aid kit, fire extinguishers, and clear safety protocols to protect our crew, your family, and your property. All of our staff are also certified in first-aid.
Site Information Board: To keep everything organized and compliant, we set up a dedicated information station upon arrival. This board clearly displays all necessary city permits, mandatory safety posters, emergency contact numbers, and site-specific rules so every trade partner stepping through the door knows our exact expectations.
Daily Job Logs: You should never have to guess what happened in your home on any given day. Our Site Supervisors maintain detailed daily job logs outlining which trades were on-site, what milestones were achieved, and what the next steps are. We provide you with regular, proactive updates so you are always in the loop and never left in the dark.
The White-Glove Final Clean
When the heavy lifting is done, our teardown process is just as meticulous as our setup.
We carefully roll up the floor protection to trap any settled dust inside the roll.
We immediately vacuum all newly exposed surfaces.
We wash all hard surface floors with a microfiber mop system to ensure absolutely no dust film or streaks remain.
We dust and wipe clean all horizontal surfaces, counters, and ledges.
Finally, we install one last brand-new furnace filter and carefully remove the 2-mil poly draping from your personal possessions, returning your household furnishings and decor exactly to their original places.
